When Marilyn Monroe sang that breathy, inappropriately sensual rendition of 'Happy Birthday' to the President, she was physically trapped in her outfit. The flesh-colored, crystal-covered gown designed by Jean Louis was so aggressively tight that she wore nothing underneath, and the final stitches literally had to be sewn into place while she was already wearing it. It was less of a fashion statement and more of a glittering hostage situation.
