A closer look
British Airways Flight 5390 experienced a horrific incident in 1990 when an improperly installed windshield blew entirely out of the cockpit at seventeen thousand feet, violently sucking the captain halfway out of the plane. While the pilot was pinned against the outside of the aircraft taking extreme wind force and freezing temperatures directly to the face, the flight crew physically held onto his belt for over twenty minutes. The co-pilot miraculously managed to land the plane safely while the rest of the crew clung to their captain's legs, fully convinced he was already dead and they were just preserving a corpse. Incredibly, the captain survived the ordeal with frostbite and some fractures, and actually went right back to flying commercial airplanes less than half a year later. Most of us will call in sick to our desk jobs if we have a mild headache or drank too much on a Tuesday, but this absolute madman got forcefully ejected into the stratosphere and decided to return to work by autumn
