Watching a live band play is cool, but apparently not as cool as watching mathematically perfect, non-existent robots shoot rubber balls at xylophones. The madmen behind Animusic bypassed traditional animation entirely by writing proprietary software that let MIDI music data drive the physics of 3D objects. Every single drum hit, guitar pluck, and laser blast was algorithmically generated based on the song's notes. It was a terrifyingly efficient, completely soulless process that somehow produced the most mesmerizing, cult-classic DVD of the early 2000s, proving that math can occasionally be entertaining.
