We've all heard that annoying trivia guy claim Eisenhower mandated one mile of straight road for every five miles of highway so fighter jets could land during a war. It's absolute garbage. Civil engineers build curves to keep drivers from falling asleep at the wheel, not to thwart imaginary Soviet bombers. Any straight patches are just there because going around a mountain was too expensive.
