To create an artificial sense of scarcity, comic publishers print the exact same story with multiple, highly limited cover illustrations. Hardcore collectors, terrified of missing a piece of the set, will routinely buy four copies of the identical book just to acquire the different artwork, allowing the publisher to brag about inflated, completely deceptive sales numbers.
