Nature reclaimed this 19th-century luxury resort long ago. Originally built by the Canadian Pacific Railway, Glacier House was the ultimate alpine destination until relentless avalanches forced its permanent closure in 1925. Today, trekkers hiking the Glacier National Park trails walk right past the moss-covered foundation stones and rusted boilers of what was once the pinnacle of high-society wilderness tourism.
