Ancient Greek wine moms were absolutely terrifying. The cult of Dionysus believed that to truly connect with the divine, you had to lose your mind entirely. They would hold secret forest rituals called 'sparagmos' where they achieved an ecstatic trance state through heavy drinking and dancing. Once fully enlightened, they would supposedly catch live bulls or goats and tear them limb from limb with their bare hands. Book club has really gone downhill since then.
