Patience is a virtue, especially for your caller display. The data packet containing the caller's phone number isn't sent immediately. It is strictly transmitted as a burst of audio frequencies precisely in the silent pause between the first and second ring of an incoming call. If you pick up the phone before the second ring starts, the caller ID data actually fails to register.
