In an era defined by deeply awful decisions, detonating a massive nuclear warhead right in the Earth's magnetic field easily takes the cake. Operation Starfish Prime sent a bomb 250 miles into orbit just to see what would happen. The resulting massive electromagnetic pulse blew out streetlights in Hawaii and completely fried a third of all satellites in low earth orbit. Absolute genius.
