Thermal imaging cameras detect heat signatures in darkness

Because everything emits thermal radiation, these cameras entirely ignore the visible spectrum and just map out temperature differences. A completely pitch-black room looks brightly illuminated if there is a warm object inside. It completely ruins the concept of hiding in the dark, rendering shadows entirely useless against basic infrared technology.
