A closer look
Most people use lucid dreaming to fly or meet celebrities, but Tibetan Vajrayana masters use it as a hardcore rehearsal for dying. Milam, or dream yoga, operates on the terrifying premise that the hallucinations you experience after death in the bardo will absolutely crush you if you can't control your own mind right now. By training themselves to wake up inside their dreams, monks practice altering nightmare geometry, duplicating objects, and maintaining razor-sharp lucidity. If you can stay conscious while the brain's default mode network goes offline in sleep, facing the lords of death should be a breeze.
