Nauru is uniquely recognized as the only sovereign nation on Earth that does not have an officially designated capital city anywhere within its borders. This tiny Pacific island was once incredibly wealthy from mining literal bird excrement for phosphates, but they managed to completely destroy their own environment and squander all the money in record time. Now they do not even have a proper administrative hub to process their own national regret, leaving them as a tragic, deeply cynical warning to the rest of the world about the dangers of extreme greed and ecological exploitation, all perfectly encapsulated in a country so dysfunctional they forgot to put a star on their own heavily strip-mined map
