A closer look
Honking your car horn in massive gridlock traffic does absolutely nothing to make the cars move faster but it certainly raises your blood pressure. In major metropolitan areas like New York City, honking excessively is technically illegal and carries a hefty fine, though literally no one has ever been deterred by this rule. Drivers seem to believe that their steering wheel button is a magical forcefield generator that will part the sea of idling vehicles like a cynical urban Moses. In reality, it just adds a deafening layer of noise pollution to an already miserable situation, communicating nothing but pure, unadulterated frustration to the hundreds of equally trapped people around you. It is the adult equivalent of a toddler screaming in a supermarket because they cannot have a candy bar, but with a two-ton metal weapon attached!
