Because actively inflating your desperate getaway vehicle with a glorified bicycle pump is exactly what you want to do in an active war zone. The highly experimental "Inflatoplane" was developed in the 1950s as a compact aircraft dropped in a literal box; it took just five minutes to fully blow up and fly away, but the military scrapped it because it could literally be shot down by a standard bow and arrow.
