Kenneth Grant was a British occultist who took over a faction of the Ordo Templi Orientis and decided that traditional mysticism simply wasn't strange enough, so he started aggressively mixing it with H.P. Lovecraft novels and UFO conspiracies. He claimed that actual magic involved contacting extra-dimensional entities from the Sirius star system through highly chaotic rituals involving cosmic nightmares and abstract art. While most magical orders were trying to sound dignified and rooted in ancient Egyptian traditions, Grant was out there arguing that fictional squid monsters from 1920s pulp magazines were actually real psychic deities.
