You would think the people who inherently distrust everyone would be the best at spotting deception. Ironically, highly cynical individuals perform much worse at lie detection tasks. Because they automatically assume everyone is lying at all times, their baseline calibration is completely broken, blinding them to the actual, subtle cognitive cues of true deception.
