Hummingbirds can hover with figure-eight wings

Normal forward flight is apparently for absolute amateurs. These wildly over-caffeinated aerial acrobats maintain precise stationary hovering by violently twisting their specialized wing joints backward and forward in a continuous eight-shaped loop. This utterly intense mechanical motion generates lift on both the upstroke and downstroke, allowing them to remain completely frozen in mid-air while feeding.
