Indium is a soft silvery metal that bonds to glass
Finding a metal that plays nice with smooth silica is notoriously difficult. Indium is bizarrely soft; you can physically bite into it like bubblegum. When rubbed against an ultra-smooth surface like glass, it physically 'wets' and bonds to the pane, creating an instant vacuum-tight metallic seal without requiring any heat or external adhesives.
