Why silicon wafers are cut with diamond

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

Once a perfectly pure crystal cylinder of silicon is grown, it has to be sliced into razor-thin wafers. Because silicon is incredibly hard and utterly fragile, standard cutting tools would immediately shatter it. Manufacturers are forced to slice it using rapidly spinning wire saws heavily coated in diamond dust, making it the most aggressively luxurious deli slicer in existence.
