A Playground Hidden in the Tower

Destiny 2’s purple ball is a small piece of environmental play in the Tower, the game’s social hub. Players can approach it, knock it across the floor, and send it bouncing around the space. There is no score to chase or quest to complete; the fun comes from seeing what a simple object lets a group of players do together.

Why Put a Ball in a Shooter?

The Tower is where Guardians regroup between missions, manage equipment, and encounter other players. A ball gives that waiting space a different kind of activity: instead of looking at menus or rushing to the next objective, players can improvise. They can pass it, chase it, or try to knock it somewhere awkward, such as off a balcony.

That contrast is part of the joke. Destiny’s story is full of interstellar danger, but its heroes are still player-controlled characters in a shared space. The ball makes room for an unplanned, low-stakes moment amid all the urgent missions.

A Tiny Sandbox for Other Players

Because the ball has no prescribed solution, players supply the rules themselves. One person’s kick can become a group’s game, with nearby Guardians joining in or simply watching. It is a modest design choice, but it changes the Tower from a place players merely pass through into one where they can make their own brief diversion.
