HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

You cannot just toss a gold ring into standard acid and expect it to melt away like a cheap movie effect. Gold is incredibly arrogant and inert, stubbornly resisting almost all single corrosive agents. It requires a highly specific cocktail of nitric and hydrochloric acids, menacingly named aqua regia, just to coax the stubborn metal into finally breaking down.
