Because printer ink is liquid gold managed by corporate cartels, a Dutch agency decided to fight back by turning typography into Swiss cheese. They developed Ecofont, a typeface designed with microscopic holes punched into every single letter. The brain ignores the blank spaces when reading, but the printer ends up using 20% less ink. It is a brilliant, entirely petty way to save a few pennies while giving the finger to Hewlett-Packard.
