Water lilies only have pores on the top of their leaves
HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART
It turns out breathing underwater is highly overrated. While standard terrestrial plants put their gas-exchanging stomata on their undersides to prevent moisture loss, water lilies flip the script. Since their bottoms are permanently dunked in ponds, they moved all their breathing pores to the roof so they don't accidentally drown themselves while trying to get fresh air.
