A closer look
Because apparently, eating actual street dirt was where humanity finally drew the line. Before engines were even a glimmer in an industrialist's eye, the 'dashboard' was literally just a plank of wood slapped onto the front of a carriage to keep trotting horses from dashing mud, rocks, and unmentionable debris into the driver's face. Fast forward to today, and that same barrier holds your digital screens, unread warning lights, and a layer of dust you refuse to wipe down. It went from blocking literal horse manure to displaying the metaphorical kind when your check engine light flashes.
