Because optimizing a groundbreaking 3D multiplayer shooter for the Nintendo 64 wasn't incredibly difficult enough, developers at Rare decided to secretly shove a 1980s computer emulator into the cartridge. They used it as an internal side project to see if they could play classic 8-bit games on the console. They deactivated it before release, but hackers eventually found it years later, proving that game developers are basically just massive nerds hiding toys at their desks.
