Ball grid arrays rely on melting microscopic balls

Instead of using delicate pins, modern complex processors are attached to motherboards using hundreds of microscopic solder spheres glued to their underside. The chip is placed onto matching pads, and the entire assembly is baked until the spheres liquefy and permanently fuse the components. Once attached, it is completely impossible to remove or repair without a terrifying heat gun and immense luck.
