Kimberlite rock formations contain deep unmined diamonds

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

Diamonds are formed too deep to reach, so we have to rely on violent 'kimberlite pipes' to bring them up. These are carrot-shaped, supersonic volcanic eruptions that shoot straight up through the crust, dragging precious stones with them. Almost all diamond mines on Earth are just giant holes dug directly into these ancient, extinct stone elevators.
