Traditional chipmaking involves slicing a massive silicon pie into tiny, individual processors, but cutting them physically severs their high-speed communication ability. Cerebras abandoned the slicer entirely. Their Wafer-Scale Engine is a single, dinner-plate-sized mega-chip containing trillions of transistors. By routing the interconnect fabric directly across the uncut silicon wafer, data travels between microscopic cores millions of times faster than standard copper server cables could ever allow.
