How chipmakers polish silicon perfectly flat

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

For an industry obsessed with microscopic perfection, chipmakers rely heavily on dragging silicon across an abrasive microscopic slip 'n slide. Between adding billions of microscopic layers, the wafer becomes uneven. To fix this, it is pressed against a rotating pad covered in a corrosive, sandy chemical slurry, violently scrubbing the microscopic landscape until it is flawlessly flat again.
