Power steering uses pressurized fluid to assist weak arms

Without this hidden fluid pump, turning your steering wheel at a standstill would feel like wrestling a boulder. A pump driven by the engine constantly pressurizes hydraulic fluid. When you turn the wheel slightly, a rotary valve cracks open, sending that high-pressure fluid against a piston in the steering rack, literally doing 90% of the physical labor required to turn the heavy metal tires.
