When Manson family member Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme tried to assassinate President Gerald Ford in 1975, her Colt M1911 failed because she didn't rack the slide. Instead of tossing it into an evidence locker forever, the Secret Service actually modified this historical artifact. They milled cutaways into the frame and slide to use it as a forensic training tool, turning a piece of botched presidential assassination history into a glorified classroom prop for demonstrating how not to chamber a round.
