Lactose-free milk is pre-digested in the carton
They don't actually filter the lactose out of milk for sensitive stomachs; they just pre-digest it for you. Dairies simply inject the commercial lactase enzyme directly into the carton before shipping. The enzyme breaks the complex lactose sugars into simpler, sweeter sugars while it sits on the shelf, leaving the fluid slightly sweeter than regular milk.
