A closer look

Humans are the only creatures on the entire planet that possess a protruding chin, a bizarre anatomical feature extending past the teeth that serves absolutely no known essential biological or mechanical purpose, and since even our closest evolutionary relatives like chimpanzees and Neanderthals completely lacked this strange bony protrusion, it leaves modern humanity as the sole proud owner of nature's most inexplicable facial shelf, anthropologists have debated for decades whether the chin helps absorb the physical stress of chewing or if it was strictly an aesthetic development for attracting mates with strong jawlines, but either way, it is incredibly amusing that the apex species of planet Earth is uniquely defined by a useless piece of protruding jaw bone that exists entirely so we have a convenient place to fold our extra fat when we look down at our smartphone screens
