Despite aggressive online debates, this is basic thermal dynamics. Certain atmospheric gases enthusiastically let incoming daylight pass through but absolutely refuse to let the resulting radiated heat bounce back out. It acts exactly like a planetary blanket, which is great for survival but highly alarming when the blanket keeps getting relentlessly thicker.
