Water fiercely segregates itself based entirely on temperature. A sun-baked, warm upper layer becomes surprisingly buoyant, completely refusing to mix with the dense, frigid water lurking at the bottom. The entire basin essentially splits into two distinct, stubborn layers that absolutely ignore each other until the seasons forcefully shift.
