Pilgrimages are usually meant for intense personal purification, not providing extreme veterinary care. Eknath traveled a massive distance to gather highly revered river water, intending to use it for an important spiritual offering. On his way back, he saw a dying donkey baking in the sun. Without hesitation, he poured the incredibly precious water down the donkey's throat.
