A closer look

Valve didn't just want you to listen to the soundtrack in Portal 2; they wanted you to literally play it with your body. Composer Mike Morasky designed an adaptive music system where propulsion gels, aerial faith plates, and hard light bridges are programmed with hidden audio triggers. Instead of an orchestral score awkwardly reacting to the player's pace, the world itself acts as a giant diegetic synthesizer. Every time you successfully execute a physics puzzle, you are inadvertently functioning as the DJ, layering complex arpeggios and rhythmic bass lines in real-time to reward your own spatial logic.
