During WWII, the eccentric author worked in Washington D.C. for the British Security Coordination. His actual job involved feeding propaganda to American journalists and gathering political intelligence, often by charming high-society ladies. It turns out the guy who wrote about giant peaches was basically a real-life James Bond.
