A closer look
Contracts signed by the creators of The Simpsons in 1989 contain a very specific clause that legally prevents Fox network executives from giving any notes, cutting scenes, or interfering with the show's creative direction. Because of this unprecedented ironclad agreement, the writers have spent the last three decades freely and ruthlessly mocking their own parent company, often portraying Fox News as a tyrannical, brainwashing propaganda machine. The network can literally do nothing to stop it because the cartoon yellow family makes them far too much money in syndication and global merchandise to ever risk a breach of contract. It is a beautiful testament to the absolute power of a good lawyer that a major media conglomerate is contractually obligated to broadcast its own brutal roast every single Sunday night for the rest of eternity
