A closer look
Friedrich Hayek absolutely hated the word 'economy.' He argued it implied a household deliberately managed by a single planner—which sounded way too much like state socialism for his libertarian tastes. To fix this, he resurrected the ancient Greek word 'Catallaxy' to describe the chaotic, spontaneous order of free markets where millions of selfish people accidentally create a functioning society. It never caught on, mostly because trying to casually drop catallaxy into a conversation immediately outs you as an insufferable economics nerd.
