Cut a perfect square off the end of a golden rectangle, and the remaining chunk is just a smaller, perfectly scaled golden rectangle. You can do this forever, creating an endless spiraling cascade of identical proportions. It is mathematically obsessive self-similarity, stubbornly refusing to lose its aesthetic ratio no matter how many times you mutilate it.
