If you think writing a glowing Yelp review is harmless, tell that to 1940s England. Karl Baedeker was so psychotically meticulous about his travel guides that he'd silently count the stairs to cathedral towers. His red guidebooks became the undisputed bibles of European tourism. Unfortunately, they were too good. During WWII, the Nazi Luftwaffe literally used Baedeker’s highest-rated tourist destinations to plot their bombing raids, orchestrating the infamous 'Baedeker Blitz' to strategically destroy Britain’s most culturally significant, three-star attractions.
