Before mobile games existed to drain your bank account via microtransactions, there was just a pixelated line eating a dot. Nokia engineer Taneli Armanto programmed Snake for the Nokia 6110 in 1997 simply to show off the phone's infrared link. It was so weirdly addictive that Nokia slapped it onto an estimated 400 million devices, making it the most played video game on earth for an entire decade while essentially functioning as a battery-draining fidget spinner.
