Instead of using highly pressurized water that can boil off and cause a catastrophic meltdown, this reactor design says 'let's just use liquid rocks.' Molten salt reactors mix radioactive fuel directly into a bath of liquid fluoride salt. Operating at high temperatures but low pressure, if the reactor gets too hot, a freeze-plug at the bottom melts, and the dangerous soup safely drains away into underground tanks.
