A closer look
Botanically speaking, bananas qualify as berries, while strawberries absolutely do not. To be classified as a berry in the wild world of botany, a fruit must develop from a single flower with one ovary, have a soft fleshy exterior, and contain multiple seeds on the inside. Bananas, pumpkins, avocados, and eggplants fit this absurdly rigid academic definition perfectly. Strawberries, meanwhile, are considered aggregate fruits because they form from a flower with multiple ovaries, and those little dots on the outside are actually the plant's ovaries. Science decided to name a delicious red fruit a straw-berry only to completely deny it berry status later on, essentially gaslighting the entire culinary world. It just proves that botanists love overcomplicating grocery shopping so they can feel intellectually superior in the produce aisle!
