Why movie sets cover logos with black tape

If a corporation hasn't explicitly paid thousands of dollars to prominently feature their logo, they absolutely do not get to exist in the fictional universe. Prop masters spend countless hours walking around sets applying tiny squares of black electrical tape over the logos on every laptop, refrigerator, and steering wheel. It creates a bizarre world where every single product is completely anonymous.
