How a Headband Leaves a Temporary Groove in Your Hair
A headphone headband pushes strands down and holds them in a new position. Hair is flexible, so it can bend and lie flatter without being damaged; once the pressure is gone, the strands may stay arranged that way for a while. The visible groove is a change in the hair’s shape and direction, not a dent in the skull.
Why the Mark Can Stick Around
Hair does not always spring back immediately. Longer or thicker hair can press against itself beneath the band, and sweat or styling products may help strands cling together. The result can look sharply defined even though the pressure was too mild to alter the bone beneath the scalp.
A quick shake, brushing, or restyling often loosens the flattened section. The groove is therefore more like a temporary imprint in a hairstyle than a mark on the head—and it can reveal exactly where the headband sat.
