Despite this feature existing plainly in the instruction manuals that we all instantly threw into the recycling bin, millions of people still rush to their kitchens like bomb disposal experts at three in the morning to stop the timer at exactly one second. Appliance companies engineered a perfect solution for nocturnal hot pocket consumption, yet our collective refusal to read basic documentation has left us entirely at the mercy of household machinery. We possess the accumulated knowledge of humanity in our pockets, but we refuse to look up how to silence our kitchen appliances, preferring instead to live in constant fear of waking up our roommates just because we wanted a moderately warm plate of leftover pizza
