Artificial intelligence models can currently generate incredibly convincing deepfake voices and videos capable of bypassing standard biometric security systems used by major banks, successfully fooling voice recognition software with terrifying consistency. Hackers no longer need to spend months meticulously cracking complex encrypted passwords when they can simply train an algorithm on three seconds of a CEO speaking in a podcast and trick the corporate security system into authorizing a million-dollar wire transfer. We spent the last decade convincing ourselves that facial recognition and fingerprint scanners were the ultimate, unbreakable frontier of digital security, only for some teenager with a powerful graphics card to render it all completely obsolete.
