Why movie swords are often heavier than real ones

If you hand an actor a perfectly accurate, lightweight replica sword, they will inevitably wave it around like a flimsy plastic toy. To force the cast to physically struggle and convey realistic bodily strain, prop masters purposely forge metal replicas that are obnoxiously heavier than actual historical weaponry. The exhaustion you see on their faces is entirely genuine.
